Who Uses a Checkbook Anymore?

Updated: Nov 12, 2021

My name is Laura Wadley and I want to share another heartwarming experience on the Capstone fundraising journey.

This past year, my husband and I have been part of the Spiritual Direction retreat program which consists of daily study in God’s Word and other books on spiritual formation. Our small group meets monthly and our larger group meets on Mt. Charleston 4 times per year.

This past weekend was our Q4 meeting. One of the ladies asked if she could speak to us after the conference was done and before we all headed back down the mountain. We said, "Sure!"

This sweet woman went on to explain that as she was packing for the weekend on the mountain, she felt that God was telling her to “bring her checkbook.” She didn’t understand why…I mean the conference was already paid for and who writes checks anymore? But, she felt a tug in her spirit that she needed to pack her checkbook or else she would not feel ready for the weekend.

It wasn’t until we were having lunch and another participant asked us to share what was happening at Capstone that she KNEW why she was supposed to pack her checkbook! She pulled out a check ($200) and asked who should she make it payable to! She said she was so glad to hear that a Christian school district was in the making and she wanted to be a part of it. I shouldn’t be amazed at what God is doing, but I still am. Thanks to His continued preparation we are confident will get the funds that we need and we will be opening our doors to students early in the new year!
