Ann O’Connell was a 20-year member of the Nevada State Senate. She is a 50+ year resident of Southern Nevada and a civic and business icon with dozens of awards for community service.  She attends Green Valley Christian Church and is enthusiastic about using her years of experience and service in the community.

We are extremely blessed to have Ann O’Connell serve as our Secretary/Director on the Capstone Christian Academy Board of Directors.  Ann served in the State Senate with distinction and has the honor of being one of only 28 people (and the second woman) to be voted to the Senate Hall of Fame.  As a legislator, she was very active in education legislation, including authoring a bill that establishes the current professional standard for teachers.  Ann also authored a bill that requires school districts to send report cards to every parent, and another bill she sponsored allows home-schooled children the right to play team sports at their local public schools.

Some of her awards include “Outstanding Citizen of the Year”, “Woman of Achievement Award in Politics”, “Guardian of Liberty Award”, “Legislator of the Year”, “Nevada Women’s Role Model”, the “Free Enterprise Award”; and most recently, she is an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Inductee, she will be featured on the website for Who’s Who in America. Ann is a former Christian bookstore owner and a hotel owner. Ann is also an enthusiastic leader and supporter of Capstone.  She believes her years of experience and service in the community will assist in helping create the very best independent Christian school for the children and families of the Las Vegas Valley.
